Andrew's notebook It takes longer to reach Tucker than he first thought it would. The number he's got written down in his notepad -- five notepads ago, so that alone takes some digging -- turns out to be no longer in service. The email address is likewise obsolete, and bounces back his first tentative hello unseen. In the end he has to resort to Google and the online White Pages. The first number listed is the old out-of-service one. The second sends him to an answering machine, with a voice that is quite definitely not his brother's. When he tries the third number it rings twice, and then there's a click and a faintly grouchy, heart-squeezingly familiar voice says "Yeah?" "...Tucker?" link - 20 Notes - make notes It's close to midnight before the Council discussion finally breaks off for the night, after going in miserable circles for the better part of half an hour. Giles has told them all quite firmly that what they need to do now is sleep; the hearings begin tomorrow morning, and there's no telling how long they'll take. No telling whether or not he'll take his own counsel, of course. Andrew and Jonathan are heading down the stone hallway to their rooms, in relative silence. link - 42 Notes - make notes A few hours after this, Andrew's out by the lake, sitting on the big flat boulder close to the shore. He's got a handful of pebbles, and is tossing them one by one out into the water. link - 50 Notes - make notes * NY search montage / Discovery of missing Slayers: HERE (done, posted here) * Springing the trap -> Beth calls Lorne: HERE / HERE (done, posted here) * Chase scene - Lorne picks up Beth: HERE (done, posted here) * Lorne's apartment: attack, arrival of the cavalry, "you're all under arrest": HERE (done, posted here) * Conversations at the Academy:

The Council's been closeted in larger and smaller groups for most of the day; a lot of classes have been canceled, or taught by last-minute substitutes. Harry Wells's class isn't one of those. It's just been dismissed, and the Slayers are dispersing in twos and threes, near-silently. Andrew, making his way through the thinning crowd to find his cousin, looks uneasily after them as he reaches the gym door. link - 48 Notes - make notes The sun's not quite down yet when Andrew gets back to the warehouse, but there's already stirring in the front room -- not unusual in the summer, when sundown doesn't happen until after prime time TV's already started, but a little weird in late winter when it's dark outside before the after-school cartoons are through. Gunn's sitting in the battered armchair with a mug of coffee and a faintly resigned expression, watching Angel brood over the caseboard. Andrew doesn't see what there is about the caseboard that motivates brooding, though he'll admit Angel doesn't generally need that much in the way of motivation. "We're all over the place," Angel's saying when Andrew steps into the ( room... ) February 26, 2007 This time he's waiting by the staff entrance to Redleaf, about half an hour before the start of the evening shift: standing in a shadow, leaning one shoulder against the wall, coat collar drawn up against the thin misting rain. It's all rather pleasingly noir, and a small part of him wishes this were less serious so he could enjoy it properly. He recognizes the coat before he can properly see the man under it. Not that he's ever seen Fitz's raincoat before, but something that color heading in this direction could only be him. link - 39 Notes - make notes It's about four days after Jonathan's first vision when the message, written in both English and the spiky Rrhay characters, is delivered to their door by a prepubescent boy wearing the livery of House Varadeem. It's an invitation of sorts, albeit worded with such unconscious arrogance as to sound more like a command; stripped of the flowery wording, it's a request/order for Angel and his warriors to attend upon Lord Vayan at a celebration this coming weekend as part of his personal guard. It's very much not their usual line of work, and there's a good deal of discussion as to whether or not to take it. Two things tip the balance: the reminder of the fact that the Powers that Be pointed them to Vayan in the first place, and the casual mention in the missive of the whereabouts of the party. It's at a very private and exclusive club, whose name isn't given. An exclusive club frequented by demon nobility, Jonathan points out, sounds an awful lot like something they've heard about before. Time to do a little legwork. It's been a while since Andrew's been back to Redleaf. He's on his own this time, and hoping the shifts haven't changed and Fitz is still working the bar. link - 19 Notes - make notes It's December 21st, 2006, and a back entrance to a store in midtown Manhattan has temporarily become the door to Milliways. Because one's room at Milliways is a great place to hide presents so your coworkers-and-housemates won't find them. A gust of damp cold air blows into the bar ahead of a half-dozen packages and boxes with an Andrew somewhere under them. link - 149 Notes - make notes In his room at Milliways, Andrew's writing in one of his ubiquitous notebooks. He's making a list. Watchers always make lists.
He hesitates for a long moment, then sighs and adds:
For a long moment he sits there at the desk, studying the list, and then puts down the pencil and closes the book. |
